Community Speedwatch

Community Speed Watch

Community Speed Watch is a volunteer led initiative that helps improve road safety by encouraging drivers to reduce their speed through our villages. Working in partnership with Sussex Police, trained volunteers monitor vehicle speeds using approved equipment at agreed locations.

The aim of Community Speed Watch is to educate drivers and encourage safer driving. It is not an enforcement scheme and volunteers do not issue fines or penalty points. Where vehicles are recorded exceeding the speed limit, the information is passed to Sussex Police who may send warning letters or use the data to help target future enforcement activity.

Community Speed Watch plays an important role in making our roads safer for everyone, including residents, pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and other road users. It also helps identify locations where speeding is a concern and provides valuable information to the police and highway authorities.

Could You Volunteer?

We are always looking for new volunteers to join the team. You do not need any previous experience as full training and equipment are provided. Whether you can spare a couple of hours each month or more, your support can make a real difference to road safety within the parish.

If you are interested in becoming a Community Speed Watch volunteer or would like to find out more, please contact our Community Speed Watch Coordinator:
